Question of the Week – Website Visibility in Google Searches

This week’s Question is all about website visibility in Google Searches.

“I have a great new website, but it’s not getting found on Google – what can I do to improve that?”

Hi there and welcome to the question of the week. This week’s question comes from Michelle Collins in Portugal.

Michelle has a very common issue. She has a great new website but she can’t get it found in Google. How can she make that better?

Well, Michelle, content is one of the most important things on your new website. You want to make sure you’ve got some good depth there, that it’s interesting, that it’s got keywords relating to what you want to be found for, that people like reading the content and that it’s shareable, so they can easily share it on the social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and so on.

As well as creating good content, you want to try as much as possible and get other complimentary businesses to link to it, Michelle. That gives Google a signal that your content is interesting and therefore they will look to rank it higher.

You may also want to think about creating videos. If you don’t like being in front of the camera, then you may also want to do something like a podcast, where it’s just an audio track.

Things like these are great ways to generate new visitors to your website.

Simple things, front-end obviously is, well include making sure you’ve got Google Analytics

setup, making sure you’ve included in the Google Webmaster Tools, and if you’ve got a WordPress website, using a plugin, something similar to WordPress SEO Yoast, which helps you fine-tune the SEO of the individual pages and posts.
